Winter Trips - Really? Really.

While the famed Chadar Trek steals most of the headlines for winter adventure trips in India, let's not dismiss the beauties of an (unfrozen) river trip in winter months. "But isn't it cold," you ask, "especially on the water?" Yes, of course it's cold. But if you're prepared (and a little brave), a winter trip - such as our Ganga Three Day - might end up being the highlight of your year. Why? Here are some reasons:

1. Most people don't come out in winter, leaving you alone to explore places that are normally packed with people.

2. The winter sky is clear and fresh - no dust, little pollution. If you come from a big city, the air will smell sweet. And the night skies (if you don't mind a few cool minutes outside of your tent) are spectacular.

3. Days are sunny, so you still get your Vitamin D.

4. Nights/mornings are cold, making your sleeping bag, campfires, a snuggle with a loved one or a hot cup of chai that much more precious.

Sunny winter days provide ample Vitamin D.

Of course, there are a few considerations you need to take if you decide on a winter trip. Although Ganga water temperature are relatively stable (between 14-16 degrees C), what you need to be concerned about it outside temps, which can range between 10-30 degrees C in the winter months. As we always say, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." We provide you wetsuits on the water, but you need to pack well (including a cozy sleeping bag!) so that you can change into warm, dry clothes and stay warm while we camp. (Don't worry, we'll send you a packing list.)

Also, if you're flying through Delhi to reach Rishikesh, you'll need to consider winter fog and possible flight delays. Make sure that your schedule is flexible enough that you can delay a few hours without postponing your river trip.

One thing to consider for your transport: Delhi fog and delayed flights.

These issues can be handled easily and are well worth it to enjoy a river trip in December or January. So collect a group of your most warm-blooded friends and get in touch!
